With starred reviews from Kirkus Reviews, Booklist, Publishers Weekly, and VOYA, author b.t. gottfred is a novelist, screenwriter, producer, director, and playwright who has penned critically-acclaimed novels that explore themes such as gender, sexuality, and human relationships and that reviewers call “ emotionally satisfying,” “poignant, quirky, and achingly honest.” Brad’s work has been selected as one of BookRiot’s Best of the Decade, Best of 2016 by Audible and has also been featured in the New York Times, Bustle, 60 Minutes, and Salon. In his forthcoming series, CANDY CANE, first available August 7th, Gottfred returns with his signature candor and ability to capture the raw complexity of human emotions.

BT Gottfred gained significant acclaim for his novels, FOREVER FOR A YEAR (Macmillan/Holt 2015) and THE NERDY AND THE DIRTY (Macmillan/Holt 2016). Publishers Weekly said of his third novel, THE HANDSOME GIRL AND THE BEAUTIFUL BOY (Macmillan/Holt 2018): “In this big-hearted novel, Gottfred explores the fluidity of gender and sexuality . . . and the many nuances of attraction.”

Gottfred also wrote and directed the digital series THE BOONIES, which premiered on go90 in 2017. He wrote and directed the play WOMEN ARE CRAZY BECAUSE MEN ARE A**HOLES that played to sold out audiences for over four years in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York and San Diego. The critically acclaimed play made its Off Broadway premiere at the historic Cherry Lane Theatre. Gottfred wrote, directed, and executive produced the feature film THE MOVIE HERO, which played at over 20 film festivals worldwide, winning numerous awards including the Audience Award at the Austin Film Festival.

In June, 2017, Gottfred co-founded the film/tv/digital production house BOLD SOUL STUDIOS with new media pioneer Corey Moss. As a producer, Gottfred’s Bold Soul Studios has helped bring to live feature films, documentaries, digital series, and the FX Series Dying For Sex, based on their podcast.

Despite wide acclaim, Gottfred’s work has been repeatedly challenged, including most recently in Beaufort, SC. As featured on 60 Minutes on March 4, 2024, Gottfred’s novel, FOREVER FOR A YEAR, is among those being threatened, but Gottfred is thankful to Families Against Book Bans, who are community members like those in Beaufort County, SC who are working to directly oppose book bans and educational censorship.

His greatest goal remains authenticity both in the creation of the work and the experience of it. For only through authenticity can we connect with our true friends and our true selves.
